Rebuilding Taradale Pottery Club in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle

On February 14, 2023, Cyclone Gabrielle swept through Waiohiki Creative Arts Village, home of the Taradale Pottery Club. With it bringing a torrent of water and leaving behind a thick layer of silt which inundated our clubrooms and left much of our equipment and resources badly damaged.

We have been deeply humbled by the countless volunteers who have helped us clean up the Village and club so far.

The messages and offers of support of help with our equipment, donations and fundraising has already blown us away.

Damage to our clubrooms and equipment

Extensive flood damage to our wheels
The flood and silt covered our club molds
Flood waters were as high as the top of the wheels
The whole club was inundated with water and silt
Outside the club rooms our wood kiln shed was swamped
