Creating with clay begins with our instruction and your imagination.
Almost a year after Cyclone Gabrielle devastated the Taradale Pottery Clubrooms, we are very excited to be opening up classes in Term 1 of 2024.
At this stage we are running evening wheel classes for adults on Mondays and Wednesdays, a hand building class for adults on Thursday evenings and Kids classes on Wednesday afternoons and Open Studio on Tuesdays. Please contact us if you have queries about age.
If you are looking for a different class - please let us know what you are interested in. We will be releasing workshops and more classes as we get our Pottery up and running again.
A great way to start with pottery is to come along to our open studio sessions - come when you can and pay as you go. There is one leader at these sessions to provide an introduction to clay with simple hand building projects. We DON’T offer beginner wheel instruction during these sessions).
Our open studio sessions are on Tuesday evenings 6.30-8.30pm except during school holidays. These classes are beginner/intro level.
If you are looking for more specialised tuition, then our weekend workshops or term-based classes would fit your needs. Please reach out if you are looking for a specific course or to learn a particular skill.
You can also join our tutored weekly classes (in 8-week terms, running with school term times) and work alongside others to learn about creating with clay - general classes (hand building) and wheel classes available. These are for adults. Please contact us if you have queries about age.
Refund Policy:
Workshops – will refund, less 10% for admin fees, only if cancelled up to 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the workshop.

WHEEL Classes
Wheel classes are held in the evening and morning. Price includes glazing & firing, you will go home with around six finished glazed pieces - $240
Evening Classes on Monday and Wednesday - 6.30-8.30pm.
These are beginner/intermediate classes, you will learn to centre clay and make a variety of forms. Firing and glazing tuition included.
Max 8 students per class.
Intermediate/advanced Wheel Classes

These are advanced classes, you need to be able to centre and pull a cylinder competently and consistently. Clay, firing and glazing NOT included. These are for adults. Minimum number of students for these classes to go ahead.
GENERAL Classes
Hand building is a bit of everything, you will learn basic all clay skills - hand building, glazing and finishing.
This is a great class to repeat. It will transition you into becoming a member and feeling confident about doing your own projects.
Thursday night - 6.30-8.30pm
Each week we do a different project with the goal of learning all the skills needed to make your own project from clay. Clay, firing and glazing included.
Max 12 people for 8 weeks.
$220pp includes clay, glazing and firing. This is an adult class.
Kids Club Class - This four-week class is for children (8-13) who have an interest in clay and want to make their own projects. In this class children will make and decorate their pieces under the guidance of a tutor. Glazing will be done by the tutor. $80 for four weeks including clay, firing and glazing.
